We Bought a Zoo, based on a true story, is about a family made up of a dad and his son and daughter. They are still trying to deal with the loss of their mother/wife. When the father's daughter wants to move somewhere more fun, he buys a house and an old zoo! They all make new friends while trying to reopen the zoo.
This movie was really fun to watch and it is indeed made for families. It's got clean humor, though it does have alcohol and swearing. There is a part where a character makes a painting that is really gory but of course it's just a painting. Very young kids will not get these parts but they will also not completely get the whole movie. There are some romances though nothing but kissing. Overall the violence, language, drinking, and relationships are at an appropriate minimum that is okay for most kids.
This book is a really cute and touching story. What makes it even cooler is that it was a true story and what they accomplished was pretty amazing. I would totally recommend this for family night!
